From the CRS President
Welcome to the 2018-2019 season of the Chicago Radiological Society! It is my great privilege to serve as President of the Chicago Radiological Society this year and I am excited to share with you that we have an excellent program lined up this season, organized by Dr. Ejaz Rahim (Program Chair) and Dr. Matthew Harkenrider (Radiation Oncology Committee Chair). With outstanding educators, highly accomplished researchers, and leaders in organized radiology on the docket, this year’s program is sure to be of interest to trainees and experienced practicing physicians alike. The ever popular “poster session” returns in January, giving our homegrown talent the opportunity to share their research and educational exhibits. Last year’s session was a success with over 60 posters presented. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks on how to submit your research/exhibit.
As the local chapter of the Illinois Radiological Society under the larger umbrella of the American College of Radiology, the Chicago Radiological Society is YOUR local organization for networking with area colleagues, sharing ideas, and advocating for both the profession of radiology and your patients’ access to the highest quality of care and radiology services. In the past year, in addition to providing outstanding education programming, Chicago Radiological Society members have monitored and testified about proposed mammography reporting legislation in Springfield, lobbied on Capitol Hill in Washington, and participated in a regional radiology expo promoting the profession of radiology to medical students.
If you are interested in becoming more engaged with the Chicago Radiological Society, please consider serving on a committee. Recognizing the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion in the radiology and radiation oncology communities, the Chicago Radiological Society has recently formed an ad hoc committee on Women and Diversity. Individuals interested in serving on this committee should contact me at bpetrovic2@northshore.org or our society e-mail address: info@illradsoc.org. Our advocacy efforts are likely to be most successful when we have participation by a broad spectrum of our membership. If you identify issues facing our profession that you believe merit further local discussion or be brought to the attention of the American College of Radiology, I encourage you to chat with us at our monthly meetings or reach out to any of the Executive Board members.
Thank you to all of our members for supporting our efforts. I look forward to a productive year and hope to see many new faces at our meetings in the coming months. To stay up to date with CRS updates, be sure to follow us on Twitter (@ChiRadSoc) or Facebook.
