The October program will feature the introduction of the Leonard Berlin, MD Memorial Lecture. Dr. Berlin’s passion, besides radiology, was medical-legal affairs. So this month’s program will focus on the legal aspects of the profession.

Following a welcome from Jonathan Berlin, MD, MBA, FACR, a Radiologist with Endeavor Health NorthShore, our first presenter will be Ilene Benator, MD, an Emergency Physician from Tanner Health System. Dr. Benator will present What It’s Like to Get Sued — A Physician’s Perspective.

Our second presentation is Avoiding Medical Malpractice — A Legal Perspective, presented by Bradley M. Cosgrove, a partner at the Clifford Law Offices.

At the end of the evening, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify common clinical, communication, and documentation factors that contribute to medical malpractice claims in radiology through a case-based review.
  • Recognize medicolegal pitfalls and high-risk practices that may increase physician liability, with highlights on regional practice patterns.
  • Apply practical risk-management strategies and legal pearls to clinical practice to reduce medicolegal risk and promote patient safety.
  • Describe the medical malpractice litigation process and its potential professional, personal, and emotional impacts on physicians.
  • Identify practical strategies for navigating a medical malpractice lawsuit and its associated professional challenges.
  • Apply evidence-based mitigation strategies to clinical practice
